Moonshine and Racing!
Join us for a thrilling journey through Dawsonville’s rich and rebellious heritage at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, where the engines of the past still echo and the stories of moonlit mountain roads come to life!
This special free community event brings together two local legends who know Dawsonville’s high-octane history better than anyone:
- David Sosebee, former racecar driver and racing historian, will offer an insider's perspective on the early days of racing, the legacy of NASCAR roots in our hills, and how Dawsonville became a national name in motorsports.
- Dwight Bearden, legendary local moonshiner, will share firsthand tales from the backroads — weaving the colorful history of the moonshine trade, its deep ties to Appalachian culture, and how it fueled (literally and figuratively) the birth of stockcar racing.
This is more than a history talk — it’s a celebration of the grit, speed, and spirit that put Dawsonville on the map. Whether you're a racing fan, history buff, or simply curious about the stories that shaped our hometown, this is one event you won’t want to miss.
Come early, bring your friends, and experience Dawsonville’s legacy like never before.
Event will take place in the Pirkle Room at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Museum.
